Oud Holland

Oud Holland – Journal for Art of the Low Countries is the oldest surviving art-historical periodical in the world. Founded in 1883, it has appeared virtually without interruption ever since. Supported by the RKD – Netherlands Institute for Art History since 1972, it is entirely devoted to the visual arts of the Low Countries from 1400 until 1945 and has featured thousands of scholarly articles, including numerous pioneering art-historical studies.

Oud Holland welcomes academic articles on the art and applied arts of the Low Countries (Belgium and the Netherlands). The journal engages with current debates in art history, including global, gender and environmental topics, and also maintains a strong tradition of publishing archival documents, (re)attributions, studies in iconography, technical art history, and broader contextual research on artists, patrons, and the art market. Thematic issue proposals are also encouraged.
