“We are very honored by this nomination,” says Suzanne Laemers, who led the project together with Angela Jager in the past few years. “It endorses the RKD’s objective to respond to the needs of the art history field. Many thanks to everyone who has supported us in realizing Marks on Art.”

Research into marks

In the database, researchers can find e.g. workshop marks, master's marks, guild marks, and transport marks found on visual and applied art. Each record in Marks on Art contains a detailed description of a mark, accompanied by one or more images. The database is part of RKD Research, which allows cross-references to be made between artworks, marks, and other research data.

Collaboration

Marks on Art is the result of an international, multidisciplinary collaboration. From designing the structure and documenting and entering data to the technical programming of the database, each phase is the result of shared knowledge and expertise. The Marks on Art database is also constantly being expanded with new data. Discover the database for yourself on the RKD Research research platform.
