Images from RKD's artworks database now available on artresearch.net

The brand new innovative platform artresearch.net makes it possible to search millions of images of artworks from leading art historcal institutions worldwide, including the Frick Art Research Library and Bibliotheca Hertziana, with a single search query. The RKD has made 300,000 images from RKDimages, part of RKD Research, available for this platform.

Artresearch.net is the result of a collaboration between leading institutions, brought together in PHAROS – The International Association of Photo Archives.
Gregory P. J. Most, chair of PHAROS and Head of Photographic Collections at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, emphasises:

“The launch of Artresearch.net marks the culmination of more than a decade of visionary work by institutions and individuals dedicated to reimagining the photo archive for the digital age.”

Searching the database

The plaform allows for two ways to search for photos on artresearch.net: by text or by image. A textual search not only finds exact matches, it also for related ideas, themes and subjects. The same applies to a search using an image: the database finds exact matches, but also suggests artworks with visual similarities. The platform is useful for researchers who want to search the image databases of different institutions simultaneously. In-depth research is facilitated by RKD Research.
