Changes to the Art History Research Service

Individual requests no longer included in our services

In line with our role as a knowledge centre, we are focusing even more strongly on supporting research. At the same time, the recent reorganisation has resulted in reduced capacity. We have adapted our services accordingly and will no longer process individual requests. The Art History Research Service will henceforth focus exclusively on professional target groups, including museums, universities, the art trade and the auction industry.

Where can I go as a private individual?

You can carry out your own research using our research platform, RKD Research – either at home or on-site in our study room in The Hague. Our staff will be happy to advise you on the best approach and how to use our collection. We can also refer you to external specialists and organisations that may be able to carry out the research on your behalf.

Changes to the Art-Historical Research Service

Commissioned art-historical research can now only be requested following the purchase of research credits. Due to the recent reorganisation, not all areas of expertise are currently represented within our team of Collections Specialists. We will therefore assess on a case-by-case basis whether we possess the necessary expertise and, if necessary, refer you to external parties.

Our expertise focuses primarily on:

• provenance research;
• the art market and collecting history;
• art from the Northern and Southern Netherlands from the period 1400–1750;
• the long nineteenth century in the Netherlands and Belgium;
• modern and contemporary Dutch art. 
   

Research credits

Research credits can easily be requested by email and paid for by invoice. To better meet the needs of our target groups, we have expanded our range to include a 5-hour prepaid voucher.
